S.M. GROUP INTERNATIONAL
From its founding in 1972 under the name Labo S.M. Inc., S.M. Group International Inc. has specialized in the earth sciences and quality control fields. During the 1980s, the organization acquired various consulting engineering firms and attracted new specialists to expand its range of services in the engineering, environment and project management areas.
Building on the strength of its multidisciplinary teams, S.M. Group International then participated in the management of one of Quebec’s most important energy projects of the last decade—Phase II of the James Bay hydroelectric development. At the same time, it devoted resources and efforts to the development of international markets by capitalizing on the expertise and experience it had gained through working with Hydro-Quebec, as well as various Quebec government ministries, municipalities and industries.
In 1996, as part of its commitment to ensuring optimal quality management through every stage of its projects, S.M. Group International obtained ISO 9001 and ISO Guide 25 certification for its quality management system, subsequently upgraded to the ISO 9001:2000 level.
Since its beginnings, S.M. Group International has continued to develop its research and quality control laboratories in areas such as soils and materials, microbiology, environmental and food chemistry, and cosmetics. Today, in addition to conducting research projects in the information technology, biotechnology and new materials sectors, it focuses on leadership in construction engineering, restoration, and infrastructure management, always in adherence with sustainable development principles and respect for communities.
